19 February 2019 – On the eve of another snow storm, Engine 601 (Chief Krueger, Chief Engineer Downs, Firefighter Hottle) responded with Crew 1 on Engine 620 and Truck 620 for a chimney fire in the Foxridge neighborhood off Catoctin Circle SW. E601 and E620 were together at Fire Station 1 on 215 Loudoun Street SW helping with the Red Hat Training when the call was dispatched. E601 arrived first and pulled a handline as a precautionary measure to the front door and E620 handled their water supply at a nearby fire hydrant. E601 and TT620 made quick access to the rooftop via a ground ladder and inspected the chimney from above while E620 safely removed the burning materials from the fireplace. Battalion 602 from Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) arrived to assume command while Medic 613-C from Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad and Safety Officer 601 from LCFR responded and/or staged. A detailed investigation in and around the chimney found the fire did not spread beyond the chimney. After ventilating the home of smoke, the homeowner was advised to have the chimney inspected and/or cleaned prior to using it, again. Many thanks to LCFR Battalion Chief Johnson for helping us rack the supply line afterwards!
